Both Missouri S&T and Missouri Western played very tough opening schedules. Both did not have the greatest results after the first 7 games. S&T sat 2-5 after their first 2 weekends and Missouri Western sat 3-7. Non conference games can be set up to either challenge your team or to get some wins under your belt in preparation for conference play. Ask the miners and griffins they’ll tell you a challenging non conference schedule is the way to go.
S&T took on Wayne State over the weekend for their weekend home opener and swept a 4 game series clean. Saturday and Sunday’s first games were decided by 1 run and then Game 2 of each day the Miner’s blew the scores open. S&T was a top 4 team for me coming into the year and currently sit as my 2nd best team in the state of Missouri.
Missouri Western was another club that coming into the year was built to be a solid club in the MIAA. A tough first 3 weeks of the season with a dismal record started the questioning of do the Griffins not have the bats this year?
Looking back now at the previous two weeks and most doubts can be said to have lessened. The Griffins have made some of the weaker MIAA teams look incredibly less competitive than the Griffins opening weeks matchups.
Missouri Western has won 6 straight in the MIAA since conference play opened up and continues to rise in my rankings. I don’t think MO Western is ready to be a top 3 club, but they’re knocking on the door this week to move into that conversation.
Here’s how the remainder of your DII Missouri teams did last week:
|Rank||Team||2017 Record||Last Week Results||Previous Rank|
|1||#2 Central Missouri||13-3||3-1||1|
|2||Missouri S & T||6-5||4-0||4|
|7||NW Missouri St.||10-6||2-1||8|
