The Division II level for baseball in the state of Missouri is a tough level to play at. Starting off 6-0 is not an easy task. Starting off ranked the #2 team in the state that was seemed overly generous.

Well if you’re Rockhurst university that opening paragraph describes your exact situation. There wasn’t many that agreed with the ranking the hawks received. 6 wins in 6 games has been an incredible start for Rockhurst, especially now heading into the Clearwater invitational.

Playing 8 games in 8 days is not easy, if a game falls the wrong way early and it creates a small losing streak can thus turn the invitational into a long week. The Hawks head down to Florida this coming weekend in hopes to keep their winning streak going.

Matchups back in the states that I think could be interesting this weekend would be, Lindenwood @ Northwest Missouri State and Drury @ Arkansas Fort Smith.

Both Lindenwood and Northwest have surprised me this year so far. The Lions have shown they appear to be better than their preseason rank of 9 and Northwest started off very hot, but over the weekend may have shown their true colors. This weekend will show which team could be a real candidate.

Drury had a big power weekend with 4 wins in 2 days. Now they travel to Arkansas Fort Smith, another well put together ball club at the Division II level. Drury was one of my sleeper teams coming into the year and they are quickly rising in my rankings. I don’t know if they have the staff to compete with the Mules for top team in the state, but they are certainly building a name for themselves.
