It is always nice to return home after a long road trip, but it’s even more amiable to have the benefit of sleeping in your own bed to wake up for a game the same day. Every Division 1 school in the state of Missouri will have this benefit this weekend.
Missouri State will travel to Arkansas State this week on Wednesday March 1st and then return home to host Central Arkansas for 3 games over the weekend. Bears had a few close games over the weekend, but pulled out 3 more wins to improve their record to 6-1 on the young season. Bears have been led by Jeremy Eierman with his 3 homeruns and 23 total bases.
Eierman is quickly becoming a name for the 2018 draft class with his smooth and easy defense that along side his ability at the plate, plays at a high level.
Mizzou will open up their first home stand with Illinois Chicago. The flames are usually one of the first matchups for Mizzou in the past few seasons that always plays the Tigers tough. Mizzou has look solid at the plate so far this year. Adding Dillon Lawson as the Volunteer coach, the Tigers have vastly improved at the plate with Eight players batting over .300 and three players batting over .400.
Tigers have been impressive so far. SEC play is right around the corner, but Mizzou can keep its record rolling with a big weekend at home.
Southeast Missouri St. had a big weekend against Western Illinois. Redhawks outscored Western Illinois 32-7 over the weekend. A much truer test will come to town this weekend with a big 10 matchup in Purdue.
Redhawks have received some timely hitting from a Missouri Top 10 prospect Dan Holst. Holst, a former high school draft pick by the Cleveland Indians is now batting .381 on the season with 13 total bases which leads the team. Purdue won’t be easy, but coming home always helps!
St. Louis U had another solid weekend. Going 2-1 over the weekend the Bilikens now sit at 6-1 overall and look to be a much stronger team than some may have assumed.
Bilikens will have another test during a mid-week matchup this week as they travel to Oklahoma State. Cowboys won’t be an easy challenge for SLU, but so far the Bilikens have made top opponents look easy.
