A second week of college baseball is in the books for Division II baseball and Northwest Missouri State has their best program start since 1973 and 1964. Missouri Southern opened up their season with 4 wins and 2 losses.
Northwest won their 6th straight before losing to Truman State over the weekend. Their 6th win came in 15 innings with Nick Palbo being a shut down reliever in the outing. Palbo posted 8.1 innings of shut out baseball, giving himself an era under 1 (.77) on the season in 11 and 2/3 IP in relief with 2 saves. Landon Figg has been a hot bat among many for the bearcats as he sits with a .462 batting average and 4 doubles in just 26 at bats.
Missouri Southern is consistently a program that produces winning seasons. Starting out I had them ranked as low as 9th overall due to last years somewhat down season. After sweeping a 2 game series with Christian Brothers and splitting a 4 game set with University of Wisconsin-Parkside I felt the need to bring Mo Southern back to a more familiar area of 6th overall in my rankings.
The lions were led by Arkansas transfer Max Hogan who led the team with 3 homeruns over the weekend. Lions as a whole team had 19 doubles over the weekend. As Missouri Southern shows it can hit with some of the best teams in the state, it’ll take some arms to help them get into my top 5. Still a very solid opening weekend for the Lions.
The only school to drop slightly in my rankings was Missouri Western who has had an incredibly tough go so far this year. Playing 6 games in 4 days is never easy. Even for any MLB player that is not an enjoyable trip.
Central Missouri remains a top my list with some shake ups behind them:
|Rank||Team||2017 Record||Last Week Results||Previous Rank|
|1||#2 Central Missouri||4-2||2-1||1|
|3||Missouri S & T||0-0||0-0||3|
|5||NW Missouri St.||6-1||3-1||8|
