Northwest Missouri State got off to an incredibly hot start on the mound this past weekend. The bearcats combined as a team to strikeout 35 of their opponent’s batters. 12 k’s in game 1 against Fort Hayes State came from Senior Anthony Caenepeel , which was followed up with 15 k’s against Northwestern Oklahoma State by Junior right hander Joseph Hietpas.
Caenepeel last year set a Bearcast school record with 104 innings pitched and 91 k’s as a junior. His return for a senior campagne I believe could be huge down the stretch for not only the Bearcats playoff hopes, but also just for Northwest Missouri State’s bullpen.
The Bearcats athletic department seem to be on quite a run this year with football winning the title, basketball in the middle of a great season and baseball off to a great start. If the bearcats can keep this pace up they’ll certainly be a name to keep an eye on in May.
Central Missouri took 2 of 3 from Northern Alabama is regular fashion and Missouri Western struggled out of the gate losing their first 3 games this past weekend, before sneaking out a win on get away day.
After a solid weekend my first ranking changes take place with Northwest Missouri State switching places with the idle Missouri Southern. Rockhurst and William Jewell made the biggest jump as they both jumped 4 spots in my D2 rankings due to the overwhelming praise they received in the GLVC’s preseason poll.
More D2 teams hit the field this week and weekend. I’ll have more updates to come next week!
